Chapter Seven
Brown knee high boots, dark blue skinny jeans, a snug white t-shirt, and a brown leather jacket to top it off. Looking at myself in the stand-up mirror, I couldnât help but silently thank Alexa in my mind. She really knew how to pick out clothes, and they were the perfect size!
Alexa dressed similarly, but in black with a white t-shirt. She pulled her hair back into a slick pony tail, and I couldnât help but watch as she neatly brushed back a few loose strands in the mirror on the other side of the room.
Feeling my gaze, Alexa looked up at me through her mirror with curious eyes, but a blank expression. I wondered how she could keep her face so still at times, like she felt absolutely nothing. Maybe time did that to her?
Would it do that to me?
âAre you ready?â Alexa asked.
My cheeks warmed, and I quickly turned back to my mirror to check out my own hair. It was in a curly afro to my shoulders, but I added a part to the left side, giving the illusion of a side bang. âI am now.â
âGood.â Alexa flashed from one side of the room and directly beside me. She slightly smiled in the mirror as the both of us peered into it. âWe look good. Yes?â
I hesitated to speak. âUâum, yes?â
Alexa turned her head to face me. âYou look great. You must have confidence instead of always being so self-conscious. People will underestimate you, you may get pissed off, and then somehow youâll find their heads in your hands.â
My eyes widened, and I waited for her to say that she was joking, but she didnât.
Alexa shrugged. âVampires emotions are much stronger than humans.â
âYou donât really seemâ¦like you haveâ¦any,â I blurted. After realizing what I said, I cleared my throat and nervously licked my lips.
Alexaâs smile faded. âIâve had a long time to practice control.â She walked towards the door.
âHow old are you exactly?â I asked as I followed behind her.
Alexa opened the door and paused while thinking back. âWell, I was born in 1917, so Iâll be one-hundred in a few months.â
My mouth dropped open, causing her to crack a smile. Since Iâve turned, I found myself enjoying her smile. It was rare, and sometimes, I couldnât even be sure that it was real, but in the short time of knowing her, her smile brought warmth to my chest.
Alexa turned to me. âHow do you feel?â
My stomach growled, and I rubbed over it.
âGood. Tonight, we practice control.â She walked out.
I followed behind and gently closed the door. âHow?â
âWell, you havenât eaten since last night, and weâre going to dance at a club full of people. You keep yourself under control until we hunt, and Iâll know that you can control your hunger.â
I sighed, knowing that this wouldnât be easy. Especially since the thought of biting into someoneâs neck was my first thought when I heard the word club.
We continued to walk past the elevators, and as they opened I could hear a man and woman laughing on their way out.
